A Message About School Safety Communications

Bennington Public Schools would like to clarify how we communicate with families and the community when situations occur on our campuses.

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. When we become aware of a situation that presents a potential threat to school safety, we will communicate appropriate information to parents and the community as quickly as circumstances reasonably allow.

However, not every situation at school represents a safety threat, and we generally will not issue district-wide messages or social media posts about matters that do not pose a potential threat to our students or staff.

We also understand that seeing law enforcement on campus may cause concern. Officers may be at our schools for many reasons, including routine visits and their ongoing partnership with our district. At other times, law enforcement may assist administrators with individual student or disciplinary matters that do not present a threat to the school as a whole.

When situations involve individual students, privacy requirements may limit what the district can appropriately share. We take our responsibility to protect student privacy seriously.

Thank you for your understanding, trust, and continued support of Bennington Public Schools.
