About Me

Educational History:

I am a 2003 graduate of Battiest High School.  After high school, I attended Carl Albert State College and graduated from there in 2005.  I completed my education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where I graduated in 2011.

Degrees and Certifications:

I received an Associates degree in education from Carl Albert State College, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  I hold a teaching certificate in the field of elementary education.  I am certified to teach first-eighth grade.

Professional Development:

I have attended various early childhood workshops since the beginning of my career.  I have received training in "The Phonics Dance," a program that I use in my classroom to teach letter sounds and blends.  I have also attended that National Model Schools Convention in Washington, DC.

Current Position:

When I was hired to teach first grade at Bennington Elementary in August 2012, it was my first teaching position.  I am now beginning my fourth year teaching first grade and I absolutely love it!  For the past two summers, I have also taught first grade for the Choctaw Nation Summer School Program.

Previous Position:

Before I began teaching, I worked as a child welfare specialist for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.  During that time, I was able to work with children and families.  I feel that I gained valuable experience that is still beneficial to me in my career as a teacher.  In college, I worked at a family-owned store and was a substitute teacher for elementary and high school.

Family Information:

I am originally from McCurtain County.  I married Josh Mussett in December 2006 and we moved to Bennington in August 2009.  We have a fantastic son named Caden who is a second grader at Bennington Elementary.  We share our home with Gizmo (a guinea pig); Firetail (a fish); and Flyer, Longneck, Bernice, Sunshine, and Oreo (backyard chickens).

Personal Information:

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was about five years old, so I consider school work to be one of my hobbies.  I love looking for new ideas for my classroom, so I spend a lot of nights searching Pinterest.  I also have a side business in photography.  I love any kind of decorating, cooking, and organizing.
